The Committee on Appropriations in a meeting presided over by Senior Vice Chairperson Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo (2nd District, Marikina City) approved the funding provisions of the unnumbered substitute bill to House Bills (HB) 2290 and 6810 or the proposed “Trabaho para sa Pilipino Act.”
Sponsoring the measure, Rep. Gus Tambunting (2nd District, Parañaque City), said the unnumbered bill seeks to help provide opportunities to unemployed Filipinos, especially those who lost their jobs during the pandemic.
According to Ms Jaz Sumalinog, the Department of Labor and Employment Bureau of Local Employment (DOLE-BLE) supports the bill, as it is in line with the agency’s priorities to increase employability of Filipinos, expand access to job opportunities, and create an environment where micro, small, and medium enterprises can thrive.
The panel likewise passed the funding provisions of the substitute bills to 1) HBs 17, 29, 173, 3015, 4097, 4267, 4615, 5811, 6235, 6247, and 7329 or the proposed “Philippine Downstream Natural Gas Industry Development Act” and 2) HBs 73, 2604, 8075, and 8117 of the proposed “Philippine Ecosystem and Natural Capital Accounting System (PENCAS) Act.”
Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Benitez (3rd District, Negros Occidental), one of the PENCAS bill authors, explained that the measure would bridge the gap between economic planning and environmental initiatives. He stressed that it could help preserve and protect the country’s natural assets.
