EASTERN VISAYAS LEGISLATORS, RDC VIII TACKLE PRIORITY PAPS FOR THE REGION

Members of the House of Representatives from the Eastern Visayas Region led by Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Wednesday met with the Regional Development Council Region VIII (RDC VIII) chaired by former congresswoman and now Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez to discuss the Eastern Visayas Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2023-2028.
Speaker Romualdez highlighted that the RDP as their blueprint for growth and progress, which encapsulates the collective aspirations, goals, and strategies to uplift the lives of Eastern Visayans. He added that securing adequate funding for the priority PAPs would significantly help accelerate the region’s progress and maximize the impact of RDC VIII’s initiatives. The Speaker also proposed several high-impact projects in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure development, education, and healthcare services which may be included in the RDP.
According to Mayor Torres-Gomez, priority programs, activities, and projects (PAPs) for the region next year shall be identified based on President Marcos Jr.’s priorities. National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan remarked that the President’s guidance was increase local presence and bring government programs closer to the Filipino people.
Discussions on the RDP also helped lawmakers prepare for the 2024 General Appropriations Bill deliberations, with TINGOG Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre assuring the RDC VIII that the Eastern Visayas lawmakers would do their part in securing the necessary budget for these programs and projects.
Following the council meeting, Speaker Romualdez led the ceremonial turnover of laptops to the Private Sector Representatives, as well as tablets to the RDC officials and employees.
