The House Legislative Information Resources Management Department (LIRMD) headed by Deputy Secretary General Dr. Edgardo Pangilinan on Thursday hosted a seminar on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and sexual characteristics (SOGIESC) and gender stereotyping in the workplace.
The resource speaker for the seminar entitled “SOGIESC TOWARDS GENDER EQUALITY” was Michael Pastor, a university lecturer, policy consultant and a gender specialist. He shared his expertise and knowledge on topics like SOGIESC and gender, stereotypes in the workplace, SOGIESC and the Philippine context, gender and language, gender and Philippine popular culture, as well as international initiatives on SOGIESC, among others.
LIRMD Legislative Information Records and Advocacy Bureau Executive Director Divina Medina took note of the topics of the seminar that attendees learned, such as the principles of gender equality, gender equity, gender sensitivity, non-discrimination and human rights from the seminar.
Knowledge Management System Bureau Executive Director and GAD TWG chair Atty. Roentgen Bronce synthesized the points of the Resource Speaker and the discussions that followed.
House Committee on Women and Gender Equality chairperson and Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman hoped that the information from the seminar shall help “create a more inclusive environment in the house, in our communities and in the workplace.”
Secretary General Velasco, who heads the House of Representatives Gender and Development Focal Point System (GAD FPS), commended Dr. Pangilinan and his staff for spearheading the event and to the GAD Committee and members for organizing the activities in celebration of the women’s month, which improved the knowledge and awareness of House personnel of the gender rights of all Filipinos.
The seminar is part of the activities lined up by the House of Representatives Gender and Development Focal Point System (GAD FPS) in celebration of the 2023 National Women’s Month. The GAD FPS alternate chair is Legal Affairs Department Deputy Secretary General Annalou Nachura.
