Secretariat officials and employees of the House of Representatives on Thursday gathered virtually for the second time for the 2021 HRep Christmas Celebration with the theme: “Ipagdiwang ang Pasko sa Kongreso kasama ang Pamilya.” This year’s HRep Christmas celebration started with a Thanksgiving Mass held last December 7, 2021 at the St. Thomas More Chapel, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Specials Affairs Bureau – Inter-Parliamentary and Public Affairs Department (IPRSAB-IPAD). House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco delivered his Christmas message, stating that the holiday season would be more festive this year because the Filipinos have endured another year of the pandemic. However, he urged everyone to remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of getting vaccinated. Speaker Velasco then thanked the Secretariat and congressional staff for their tireless efforts and dedication to their sworn duty as civil servants. “Kayo po mga congressional staff at secretariat ang tumutulong sa amin bilang mga kinatawan, upang maayos naming magampanan ang aming mga sinumpaang tungkulin. You are the reason why we have a functional Congress and why we have exemplary lawmakers. Lubhang napaka-produktibo po ng 18th Congress dahil sa inyo,” Speaker Velasco said. Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza delivered a brief statement, in which he wished the Secretariat a Merry Christmas and commended everyone for a job well done. Outlining the importance of family in this time of pandemic, the HRep held a family Christmas caroling competition entitled, “Tuklas ’21: Himig Pasko ng Pamilya.” The contest was a singing video presentation of various HRep Secretariat Offices and the Congressional Staff Association (CONSA) with their families. The Gonzales Family, composed of their mother Girlie and daughters Mav and Monel, represented the IPAD and won as the grand prize winner of the said contest. Cooky Chua of the Color It Red Band, who participated as a judge in the family Christmas caroling contest, also gave a heartwarming performance during the celebration. Meanwhile, winners of different competitions held during the HRep Month last October 2021 performed during the Christmas celebration. Portraits of Hope Painting Contest winners Katrina Jayne Oprenario of the Planning and Management Information Service, Robie Joy Nieves of the Human Resource Management Service, and Director Ma. Josefina Ricafort of the Office of the Secretary General explained in an interview the significance and inspirations behind their winning artworks. Also, Leo Aguilar of the Knowledge Management Systems Bureau (KMSB) shared his winning poetry entitled “Ang Pandemya at ang Kamara.” “HRep Month 2021 Saya-Sayawan” winners also performed a Christmas dance number during the celebration, namely Gilbert Engay, Monel Gonzales, Lorelei Castillo, Minnie de Guzman-Lee, Kristina Mercado, Karla Soriano and Araceli Bacana. The HRep Administrative Department hosted this year’s Christmas celebration.
