A House member has commended and congratulated Angelia Ong for winning the prestigious Miss Earth 2015 beauty pageant held at Marx Halle in Vienna, Austria last December 5, 2015, which brought honor and pride to the Philippines.
Rep. Leopoldo N. Bataoil (2nd District, Pangasinan) said Ong's achievement brought pride to the Filipino people and will serve as an inspiration to young Filipino women, as well and remind the country of its responsibilities to the environment.
"The country made history when Angelia Ong bested 85 contestants from around the world, recording the first back-to-back history by a country in the contest's 15 years of existence," said Bataoil, a vice chairman of the Committees on Public Information and on Veterans Affairs and Welfare.
Bataoil commended Ong through House Resolution 2561 which once adopted would be the basis of a tribute to Ong by the House of Representatives.
Bataoil said Ong impressed the judges during the final question and answer round when she came up with a slogan for the contest's next five years.
"It was 'We will, because we can', explaining that all things are possible and all things are feasible if we work together," said Bataoil, a former police general.
Bataoil said the Miss Earth pageant was conceived to focus on the world environment and to globalize the need for its conservation and protection.
"Beauty has always been a moving force among mankind, having a Miss Earth beauty pageant will generate publicity and give face to the movement to preserve and conserve our natural resources," said Bataoil.
