On his last day as leader of the House of Representatives, Speaker Prospero C. Nograles, last June 29, led the blessing ceremonies of the newly constructed South Wing Annex building of the House of Representatives at the Batasan Complex, Quezon City.

The South Wing Annex building is one of Nograles' projects and programs that have greatly improved the external and internal features and functions of the lower chamber.

The P700-million building took nearly three years to build—from 2008 to 2010.

Although initiated during former Speaker Jose C. de Venecia Jr.'s term, the project was implemented and completed during the Nograles administration.

Present during the ceremonies were Deputy Speaker Simeon Datumanong, Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez (Lone District, Cagayan de Oro City) Roilo S. Golez (2nd District, Parañaque City), Emmanuel Joel J. Villanueva (CIBAC Party list), Juan Edgardo M. Angara (Lone District, Aurora) and Jesus Crispin C. Remulla (3rd District, Cavite).

In his welcome remarks, House Deputy Secretary General Edgardo Pangilinan said the new building is "another monument that speaks of the commitment of the 14th Congress under the leadership of Speaker Nograles to make this institution what it truly should be: the House of the People."

The four-storey structure has six large conference rooms, spacious lobby and food service areas at the ground floor; eight small conference rooms, an executive lounge, business center on the second floor; six deputy speakers' rooms, 13 congressmen's rooms and two caucus rooms on the third and 27 congressmen's rooms on the fourth floor.

It has two elevators, centralized airconditioning, projector and motorized screen in the conference rooms. All floors have visitors' holding areas. In total, the building has 16 conference rooms, 40 offices for House Members and six offices for Deputy Speakers.

After the blessing conducted by Fr. Mar Sanchez, everyone next proceeded to the North Wing basement for the opening of the gallery of the House Secretaries-General.
