Former President and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo today asked the MWSS to order Manila Water to lower the water pressure in the East Zone to eliminate water interruption in the area.
Speaker Arroyo initiated a briefing with the MWSS Thursday evening to shed light on the ongoing water shortage in the East Zone. She told MWSS Administrator for Engineering Leonor Cleofas and Dept Manager for Research Byron Carbon to tell Manila Water to lower the pressure to enable them to service the area without interruption.
"It is a short-term solution to distribute the water more efficiently to more areas," Speaker Arroyo said.
Speaker Arroyo initiated the briefing to help the government find immediate solutions to the ongoing water problem in the East Zone as a prelude to the House Oversight Committee hearing on Monday on the issue.
Also present in the briefing was House Committee on Public Works chairman Rep. Bayani Fernando.
Cleofas said that the two water concessionaires are in the process of cross-border flow piping to enable Maynilad Water, which is servicing the West side, to share its water with Manila Waters.
To check on the status of the pipe laying, Speaker Arroyo is scheduled to check on the cross-border flow being constructed on West avenue, Quezon City today.
Speaker Arroyo said she is eyeing the filing of a proposed bill that offers a sustainable and long-term solution to the water situation in the country.
