PHILIPPINE-IRAQ TIES

Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. (right) welcomes H.E. Wadee Batti Hanna Al-Batti, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to the Philippines, following their brief exchange of notes on bilateral issues during the latter's courtesy call on the House Leader Tuesday, March 19. H.E. Al-Batti, who holds both doctoral and masters degrees in Nuclear Physics from the University of Minks-Belarus, had been his country's envoy to the Philippines since June 2010. Diplomatic relations between our two nations was established on January 21, 1975 (37 years ago), with the Philippine Embassy in Baghdad opening on September 19, 1980.
