The House of Representatives, led by Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr., pays its final tribute to one of its illustrious members, the late Rep. Salvador H. Escudero III of the 1st district of Sorsogon during a special Requiem Mass held at the plenary hall of the Batasang Pambansa on August 15, 2012. Escudero, known for his industry and commitment to public service, served his constituents as a former Minister of Education and member of the Regular Batasang Pambansa and, subsequently, as member of the 8th, 9th, 10th, 14th and 15th Congresses. Until his demise, he was Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture. He was 69 years old when he passed away at dawn of August 13, 2012. Speaker Belmonte (top, right) presented legislative memorabilia to Dr. Evelina G. Escudero in the presence of the late lawmaker’s daughter Bernadette Quirante and sons Philip and Senator Chiz Escudero. Aside from Speaker Belmonte, those who delivered their eulogies were Hon. Victor Ortega, Hon. Deogracias Ramos, Jr., Hon. Imelda R. Marcos, Hon. Florencio "Bem" Noel and Deputy Speaker Arnulfo Fuentebella.
