The House terminated on Friday plenary deliberation on the proposed P24.347-billion budget of the Congress of the Philippines for fiscal year 2021. Committee on Appropriations Vice Chairman Rep. Joey Sarte Salceda (2nd District, Albay), who sponsored the budget at the plenary floor, voiced support for increased allocations for the House of Representatives’ Congressional Policy and Budget Research Department (CPBRD). “I’m a big fan of CPBRD… I am for strengthening the CPBRD,” Salceda said. The statement was in response to the interpellation of Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate (Party-list, BAYAN MUNA), who urged the House to enhance its research arm. “Siguro, in the proper time, ay tignan natin ang pondo din ng CPBRD especially under the new leadership, gawin itong isang napaka-aktibong arm ng Kongreso sa kanilang paglulunsad ng pananaliksik na makatulong din sa ating mga kinatawan at makatulong sa institusyon ng Kongreso sa iba’t ibang mga usapin,” Zarate said. Of the P24.347-billion budget of the Congress, P15.243 billion is allocated to the House while the Senate is poised to receive P7.788 billion.
