With COVID-19 crippling the country’s tourism industry, the House of Representatives approved on final reading Wednesday several bills seeking to declare as tourist spots and eco-tourism zones municipalities and destinations in Albay, Iligan, Pangasinan, and Palawan. When enacted into law, the Department of Tourism would include these tourist and tourism eco-zone development sites in the agency’s programs and projects and boost their promotion, thus developing them further along with the quality of life of the residents of the communities. House Bills 7528 and 7529 declare the foreshore areas, which line the Albay West Coast, as a tourist spot and the Municipality of Jovellar in Albay as an eco-tourism zone; HB 7530 declares Iligan City as a tourism development area; HB 7533 declares Barangay Laguit Padilla in the Municipality of Bugallon, Pangasinan as an eco-tourism zone; HB 7534 declares the Limahong Channel in Pangasinan as a tourist spot; and HB 7535 declares Mudlom Cave in Palawan as a tourist destination.
