HOUSE ADJOURNS ON A HIGH NOTE

HOUSE ADJOURNS ON A HIGH NOTE

09 February 2019 10:09:25 AM

The House of Representatives adjourned on Friday on a triumphant note, as weeks of intense deliberations of the House and Senate bicameral conference committee on the 2019 national budget have successfully come to a close. The two chambers ratified the bicameral conference committee report on House Bill 8169 which provides for a national budget of P3.757 trillion this year. The ratification ends seven months of productive and efficient policymaking since former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo took the helm as Speaker of the House. It's not the end of the road, however, as Speaker Arroyo assured that the House will continue to exercise its oversight functions though the House is adjourned for the next three months to make way for the May elections. Members present include Deputy Speakers Rose Marie "Baby" Arenas, Mercedes Alvarez, Mylene-Garcia-Albano, Randolph Ting, Prospero Pichay Jr., Arthur Yap, Ferdinand Hernandez, and Evelina Escudero, Majority Leader Fredenil Castro, Minority Leader Danilo Suarez, Deputy Majority Leader Rodante Marcoleta, Appropriations Committee Chairman Rolando Andaya Jr., Constitutional Amendments Committee Chairman Vicente "Ching" Veloso, Reps. Ronaldo Zamora, Anthony Bravo and Rodolfo Albano III, among others.| Perfecto Camero / Czarina Engracia
