Former President and now Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo gave the assurance on Wednesday that the newly created House Committee on Disaster Management, chaired by Rep. Geraldine Roman (1st District, Bataan) is moving forward with its initiatives to expeditiously rehabilitate the City of Marawi, as well as Regions 1, 2, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), which were gravely hit by Typhoon Ompong. A few minutes after the hearing was called to order, the Committee Members approved the committee report on the draft substitute bill of House Resolution 2211, which seeks to enjoin all government agencies to participate in the rebuilding of the regions affected by the typhoon. Thereafter, the panel tackled the updates on the Marawi ocular visit scheduled on December 10, 2018 to be undertaken by the Chairperson and Reps. Ansaruddin Abdul Malik Adiong, Makmod Mending Jr., Ann Hofer, Cristina “Chiqui” Roa-Puno, Marlyn Alonte, Victoria Isabel Noel, Vini Nola Ortega, Mauyag “Jun” Papandayan Jr., and Frederick Siao. Speaker Arroyo directed the Committee to invite a Department of Social Welfare and Development representative to also aid in addressing the psychosocial effects of the Battle of Marawi to its inhabitants.
