WIRETAPPING IN ANTI-DRUG CAMPAIGN

WIRETAPPING IN ANTI-DRUG CAMPAIGN

04 October 2017 04:13:45 PM

The House committee on dangerous drugs under Chairman Robert Ace S. Barbers (2nd District, Surigao del Norte) delves into possible lifting of prohibition in RA 4200 or the Anti-Wiretapping Law in certain cases involving illegal drugs to act as a deterrent to the drug menace. Likewise, alarmed over reports of online drug trade and the use of Grab, Uber and other Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) to transport contraband, the committee initiated a motu proprio investigation on the new modus operandi which victimizes TNVS drivers while the real traffickers remain scot-free. Present during the deliberations are Reps. Cesar Sarmiento, Romeo Acop, Pablo Ortega, Rodel Batocabe, Aurelio Gonzales, Jr., Edgar Sarmiento and Arnolfo Teves, Jr. The committee invited officials from drug and law enforcement, communications and transport agencies, such as DOJ, DICT, PDEA, PNP, NBI, and AFP as well as TNVS representatives. / CM/PC
