Are you in favor of HB 4982, or the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) bill, a measure that aims to protect members of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community from discriminatory acts?

Yes, the SOGIE bill only seeks to ensure LGBT’s fair access to education, healthcare, employment, public services, and other basic rights. The measure is not about same sex marriage and gender recognition but about equality, inclusiveness and acceptance that is the right of every Filipino.

No, there is no need to pass the SOGIE bill because it limits the free expression of religious beliefs (i.e. those that condemn LGBT acts). Proscribing and penalizing several acts considered discriminatory under the bill will also redefine and add to the original meaning of “sex and gender.” Moreover, there are already many existing laws that safeguard the rights of every citizen against discrimination.

I am undecided.
